The Sony Ericsson P200 (codenamed Paris) is somewhat of an enigma in the smartphone world. It is said to be Sony Ericsson’s most advanced, and best looking phone yet, however, the UIQ phone has apparently been ‘cancelled’, to the disappointment of Sony Ericsson fans.
It is not clear whether the phone is simply being developed even further, and many people still remain optimistic. Very little information was known about the ‘Paris’, but leaked images on the Internet a few months ago seem to suggest that the phone houses a good quality 5 megapixel camera with Touch-Autofocus.
Also, the phone benefits from Wi-Fi technology, and has a built in GPS system (with WayFinder Navigational software and Google Maps), along with an XMB-inspired Media Centre, and a media player that seems to resemble the one used in G700/G900 at first glance. The Paris has a 128 MB of RAM and is based on the Symbian OS 9.3 UIQ 3.3. Although it is rumoured that the handset is now being replaced by the smartphone Hikaru (which looks set to be a high-end walkman phone), nothing has been confirmed and the P200 could still enjoy a release into the market. If the latter does happen, the Paris would undoubtedly be successful. Further features that are tipped to included (if and when the Paris gets released!) are a very stylish sliding keyboard which tucks away nicely behind the screen, and different home screens so users can navigate between them by pressing left and right. Also, there’s a sliding mechanism on the back of the phone that acts as a lens protector for the camera.
All in all, Sony Ericsson’s much anticipated Paris handset looks very impressive indeed, however, when it will be released is anyone’s guess. Fans of the manufacturer’s previous smartphones will be waiting with baited breath.

Nokia and Yahoo also plan make it easy for people to use their Ovi user IDs across select Yahoo properties to easily access the online content and services they need.
The CEO of Nokia, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said ‘Delivering great user experiences – both online and on your mobile – is what this alliance is all about. Similarly, Yahoo’s online expertise will bring exciting mail and messaging enhancements to millions of Ovi Mail customers across almost every country around the world, many of whom will have their first Internet experience on their mobile.’
Carol Bartz, Yahoo CEO said: ‘We’re excited to expand the reach of our best-in-class Mail and Messenger services, bringing personalized experiences to more people across the mobile web, particularly in emerging markets where we are seeding the next generation of Yahoo users. At the same time, we believe Nokia’s strength and continued investment in maps and navigation will greatly enhance our existing products, enabling us to focus on areas that are core to our business.’
Co-branded service offerings are expected to become available from the second half of 2010, with global availability expected in 2011.
